Since my childhood in Switzerland, I have always been feeling like a farm girl at heart and farming, horses, animal husbandry and bees keeping being part of this cycle have been always close to my core. When I heard about the terrible dying off of honey bees world-wide I was very upset, in fact one of the first articles I published here IS about that very issue.
Meeting SAM and watching the video on his web-site:
www.anarchyapiaries.org
this has changed dramatically. Now I Know there is Hope for the Bees!
Sam's way of finding honey bee hives that have been abandoned for years and survived without any help from people and using those queens to populate new hives and breed new queens that are at home in an area, is the answer to some of the problems that plague commercially kept hives. He is also using a more natural way of helping them get the honey comb started and a beautiful shape of boxes, which is different then the square kind which has been in use for about a hundred years before.
I can't tell you how happy and exited I AM about this wonderful news. If you think of it, the bees are so important in our food production, healthy living and survival in the future.
Coming soon, I will tell you more stories about our own journey with growing healthy hydroponic greens, flowers and herbs right out of our greenhouse in the back pasture where my Andalusian horses live. Coming soon....... |
